A Shared Vision: Consumer Engagement in Research

The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) alliance will host the second annual VCCC Consumer Engagement Forum on Wednesday 9 December.

Consumers play an important role in assisting researchers, clinicians and educators to better understand the lived experience of cancer. From involvement in research to guiding decision-making, consumer perspectives provide a unique source of knowledge.

This second annual forum, hosted by the VCCC Cancer Consumer Advisory Committee will bring together consumers, researchers and those who support these working relationships. The forum is a way to explore implementing the consumer voice into research practice, covering practical ideas and exemplar case studies. It is an opportunity to consider insights into what to expect within these collaborative working relationships and how to prepare.

Program

It begins with a conversation
Hear from locally based, internationally regarded researchers and consumers working together on research projects. Understand what matters most - putting assumptions aside and breaking down barriers.

Small group discussions
Engage in discussions to develop strategies on how to integrate consumers into research. It will be an opportunity to look at small and large issues, and to move everyone forward.

Take away
It is not too late to engage consumers, and conversely, it is not too late to engage with researchers. The forum will showcase practical tools and initiatives to get involved.
