VCCC Grand Round Breast Cancer with Professor Christobel Saunders AO

Removing all the tumour in one operation – is that so hard?

Improving surgery accuracy is a priority for clinicians. The goal is to remove all of the tumour in one operation leaving the patient with the best oncologic and cosmetic result. However, one in five women still need repeat surgery to fully remove the tumour, often resulting in cancer reoccurrence and poor cosmetic outcomes.

Internationally recognised cancer surgeon, Professor Christobel Saunders AO, will present her exciting new work which seeks to improve the outcomes of breast tumour surgery. The new technology and method aim to localise small impalpable tumours to distinguish if any tumour tissue, even microscopic amounts, have been left behind at surgery to ensure the best possible result.
